Jagiellonian University to heighten its cybersecurity

The ongoing digitalisation of all activities carried out by the Jagiellonian University makes the issue of cybersecurity one of its top priorities. The great rise in the number of cyberattacks launched at the education sector, which is now threatened three times as much as the banking sector, is an additional motivation for increasing the level of IT security.

Jagiellonian University New Year’s Concert

On 14 January, the Jagiellonian University academic community celebrated the coming of the New Year with a special concert held in Auditorium Maximum. The audience had the opportunity to listen to pieces performed by artists of the Kraków Opera, JU Academic Choir Camerata Jagellonica, Słowianki Song and Dance Ensemble and Karol Szymanowski Philharmonic in Kraków. The performance was conducted by Janusz Wierzgacz, to whom JU Rector Prof. Jacek Popiel presented a gift in the form of a miniature replica of the Rector's sceptre.

JU physicists published in Nature Communications

The journal Nature Communications has published the result of the world's most accurate test of symmetry between matter and antimatter in the positronium atom, performed by the J-PET Team led by Prof. Paweł Moskal from the JU Faculty of Physics, Astronomy and Applied Computer Science of the Jagiellonian University. The preparation of necessary equipment, experiments and subsequent data analysis took seven years.

New reconstruction of a human ancestor displayed at the Nature Education Centre

The anthropological exhibition at the Nature Education Centre of the Jagiellonian University now features a new reconstruction of Homo sapiens ancestor. The famous Lucy, which belonged to Australopithecus afarensis species, has thus joined two already existing reconstructions – of a Neanderthal (Homo neanderthalensis) and a Homo erectus.

Three Polish-French research projects to be carried out by scientists from the Jagiellonian University

Dr Vittorio Canale from the JU Faculty of Pharmacy, Dr Katarzyna Majzner from the JU Faculty of Chemistry and Dr Grzegorz Zając from the Jagiellonian Centre for Experimental Therapeutics became winners of the PHC Polonium scientific research programme run by the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA). Its goal is to support the mobility of scientists and strengthen the scientific cooperation between Poland and France.

Funding for Polish-Walloon research on planar graphs

Dr hab. Piotr Micek, Prof. UJ from the JU Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science will carry out an international trilateral research project thanks to funding from the Weave-UNISONO call. Scientists from Kraków, Brussels and Karlsruhe will be pursuing a research project focusing on planar graphs.
