JU invention recognised by US patent office

Four researchers from the JU Faculty of Biochemistry, Biophysics and Biotechnology – Dr Agata Szade, Dr Krzysztof Szade, Prof. Alicja Józkowicz and Prof. Józef Dulak – have developed an innovative biochemical technique, recently recognised by the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

The patent is concerned with employing cobalt protoporphyrin for the manufacture of an agent for mobilizing bone marrow cells to peripheral blood in order to treat haematopoietic diseases, particularly neutropenia, and to increase the amount of circulating haematopoietic stem cells in peripheral blood for subsequent isolation in the process of apheresis and allogeneic or autologous transplantation.
