Europubhealth+, a study programme realised at the JU MC Institute of Public Health, has won the first place in the ASPHER Deans & Directors Award for the best public health education programme in Europe. The award ceremony will take place next Friday in London, during the annual ASPHER meeting.

ASPHER (Association of Schools of Public Health in the European Region) is an independent organisation dedicated to increasing the role of public health by improving education as well as promoting actions leading to exchanging of information and good practices to achieve the highest possible standards. Its main aims are: professionalisation of public health care staff, supporting ASPHER partners, and developing models of education and training in public health in all teaching institutions.

The Europubhealth+ programme has been available at the JU MC Institute of Public Health for 12 years (previously as EuroPubHealth). During its first year, students learn the basics of public health care in Sheffield or Granada, while during the second (and final) year, they study their chosen specialisations and prepare their theses in Kraków, Granada, Rennes, Paris or Maastricht. At the end of each academic year, an meeting entitled Building innovative and sustainable solutions to global health challenges is held in Rennes in order to familiarise the students with one another.

The project is coordinated by Dr hab. Christoph Sowada, head of the Institute of Public Health of the JU MC Faculty of Health Sciences.
