On 29 January 2018, the Jagiellonian University hosted a visit from the Ambassador of New Zealand to Poland Mary Thurston. She was received in Collegium Novum by the JU Vice-Rector for Educational Affairs Prof. Armen Edigarian and Prof. Piotr Laidler from the JU Internationalisation Committee.
The topics discussed during the meeting included relations between Poland and New Zealand, with special focus on higher education, both in the area of research collaboration and student exchange (currently there are three students from New Zealand studying at the JU). The meeting participants discussed prospects for cooperation between the Jagiellonian University and New Zealand’s higher education institutions.
After the meeting, the diplomat took a short guided tour of Collegium Novum building.
Mary Thurston commenced duties at the New Zealand Embassy in Warsaw in July 2017. Besides Poland, she is New Zealand’s Ambassador to Poland, Estonia, Georgia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Ukraine. Her previous positions include New Zealand’s Deputy High Commissioner to Singapore and Maldives, New Zealand’s Deputy High Commissioner to Solomon Islands, and the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) Coordinator at the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Trade (MFAT)’s Trade Negotiations Division.
