Intro Days 2018

Intro Days is an event dedicated to foreign students beginning their education at the Jagiellonian University in Kraków. It consists of workshops and trainings which take place in the last days of September, allowing the prospective students to familiarise themselves with various aspects of studying in Poland, including rules and regulations, health insurance, curriculum, and many more.


The series of meetings with representatives of the University as well as important local organisation and government institutions will introduce foreign students to basic concepts related to everyday student life in Kraków.

Stands:

  • Welcome Point – an information and registration point for all foreign students. Upon registration, the participants will receive welcome packs.
  • MUW stand – an information stand ran by Małpolski Urząd Wojewódzki (Małopolska Provincial Office). Its staff will assist students in collecting the documents required for the legalisation of their stay in Poland as well as applying for a temporary and permanent residence permits.
  • Participant accommodation – providing mentoring and linguistic support for the initial accommodation of foreign students in the University's student dormitories.

Meetings:

  • Meeting with the JU authorities – a welcome meeting featuring presentations of the event programme and the University itself.
  • International Breakfast – a meeting with student organisations, which is an excellent opportunity to get acquainted with the Student Government, Student Ambassadors Group, and student academic societies and organisations.
  • Your career with JU! – participants will receive valuable information concerning not only the work of the office and proposals for students, but also information about the most important data from the job market. Participants will learn how to direct their careers with the support of the Career Services using such services as career coaching, help in writing a resume and motivation letter, mentoring project, job fairs, and refresher courses.
  • Visiting Collegium Maius, Museum of Pharmacy, and JU Botanical Garden – an excellent opportunity to get to know the Jagiellonian University from a historical perspective. Depending on time of visit, tours in Polish, Russian and English are available.
  • Movie night: 'Cold War' – the latest movie from Polish Oscar award nominee Pawel Pawlikowski depicts a love story between a man and a woman during the time of the Cold War in Europe. Screening will take place at Kino Pod Baranami – an atmospheric studio movie theatre located in a historic palace in the heart of Kraków.

Panels:

  • Financial aid – the panel will present the different types of offered scholarships, the application procedure for particular scholarships and the documents required to apply. It will end with a presentation about the student dormitories of the Jagiellonian University and JU Medical College.
  • Take care of your health! – this panel will present important information on health insurance in Poland.
  • Fees – the panel will present the most important information concerning tuition fees, their regulations, and payment deadlines.
  • Organisation of the academic year – the panel will present the most important dates of the academic year from the students’ point of view, such as registration for classes or filing a declaration of chosen courses.
  • NAWA scholarships – a panel devoted to NAWA scholarships. Participants will be introduced to the scholarship payment procedure and additional benefits.
  • International and domestic exchanges – the panel will present the most important international and domestic programmes available to each student of the Jagiellonian University. It will discuss the rules of participation and recruitment deadlines for particular programmes, the scholarship amount as well as possible destinations and duration of the exchange.
  • Legalisation of stay – the panel will be led by the employees of the Małopolska Provincial Office in cooperation with the Polish Border Guard, who will talk about the ways of legalising the students’ stay in Poland, rules of entry and exit from the country, types of visas, and consequences of illegal stay.
  • Student safety – JU Rector’s Proxy for Student Safety and Security Katarzyna Jurzak will talk about her responsibilities related to student and PhD candidate safety, ranging from preventive and educational activities to ongoing responses to security situations at the University.

Workshops:

  • USOSweb's Black Magic – workshops on how to use USOSweb, including assistance in registering for classes.
  • Library training – an introduction to using the resources of the Jagiellonian Library and various faculty libraries.
  • Training in university etiquette – a workshop providing information about the principles guiding the preparation and submission of applications as well as the University rules of communication.

Presentations will be carried out by experts in the respective topics with simultaneous translation into Russian and English, depending on the language of the panel.
