JU researchers discover previously unknown mechanisms of heart function disorders in patients with Duchenne muscular dystrophy

Scientists from the Department of Medical Biotechnology of the JU Faculty of Biochemistry, Biophysics and Biotechnology are unravelling the previously unknown mechanisms of heart function disorders in patients with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD). Their studies have been recently published in Cardiovascular Research, one of the leading journals in the field of basic and clinical research into heart and circulatory system diseases.

SOLARIS Director assumes chairmanship of LEAPS

Research results from Synchrotron Radiation and Free Electron Lasers are groundbreaking in many scientific fields. Europe has achieved global leadership in this field. From 2025 onwards, for the next three years it will be the SOLARIS Centre, as a part of Jagiellonian University, that will give direction to the LEAPS consortium of European light sources.

JU lawyer elected to the UNIDROIT Governing Council

Prof. Andrzej Szumański from the JU Faculty of Law and Administration was elected to the Governing Council of the International Institute for the Unification of Private Law (UNIDROIT). The international organisation aims to facilitate the harmonisation of international private law in different countries through the development of model regulations and guidelines.

Dr Piotr Bystranowski granted Fulbright Senior Award

On 18 December 2023 the Polish-US Fulbright Commission announced the winners of the Fulbright Senior Award 2024-25 programme. Among them is Dr Piotr Bystranowski from the Faculty of Philosophy of the Jagiellonian University. During his research stay in the United States, he will carry out the project ‘Measuring Meta-Interpretation’ at Georgetown University, Washington DC, in collaboration with Prof. Kevin Tobia.

Felczak and Wereszycki Prize goes to Dušan Fundić and Miklós Mitrovits

On 13 December 2023 the winners of W. Felczak and H. Wereszycki Prize were announced at a ceremony in the premises of Wydawnictwo Literackie publishing house. The prize is awarded annually, alternately to Polish and foreign researchers, in recognition of outstanding publications on the history of the Central-East Europe and its relationship with Poland from the Middle Ages to the present day. This year’s prize was awarded to Dušan Fundić and Miklós Mitrovits.
