JU professor chosen as the new president of EAPCI ESC

JU professor chosen as the new president of EAPCI ESC

On 22 May, Prof. Dariusz Dudek became president-elect of the European Association of Percutaneous Cardiovascular Interventions of the European Society of Cardiology (EAPCI ESC). It is the first time a Pole was chosen for this position.

Prof. Dariusz Dudek was elected by a group of several thousand European interventional cardiac surgeons during a meeting which took place in Paris as part of the annual EuroPCR workshop. He will take up the position in 2020, after Prof. Andreas Baumbach, the current president of EAPCI, who began his term in 2018.

The candidates are assessed through the lens of their research and medical experience as well as their previous activities in EAPCI and their future plans for the organisation. Prof. Dudek’s main competition was Prof. Martine Gilard from France.

Prof. Dariusz Dudek is the head of II Department of Clinical Cardiology and Cardiovascular Interventions of the JU University Hospital in Kraków. For many years, he has been developing novel methods of myocardial infarction treatment and hybrid valve operations, giving the patients higher chances of successful medical procedures. Prof. Dudek is also one of the coordinators of the European social campaign ‘Valve for Life’ in Poland.
