JU strengthens cooperation with Ukrainian higher education institutions

On 14–15 November, the Jagiellonian University was visited by a delegation of the Union of Rectors of Higher Education Institutions of Ukraine (URHEIU). The visit’s highlight was a debate on collaboration between Polish and Ukrainian universities, which took place on Wednesday at 11.00 a.m. in Bobrzyński Room of JU Collegium Maius.

The delegation comprised Prof. Leonid Huberski, President of URHEIU and Rector of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, Prof. Petro Bekh, Vice-Rector for International Cooperation of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, Prof. Wiktor Andruszczenko, Rector of M. P. Drahomanov National Pedagogical University in Kyiv, Prof. Wil Bakirow, Rector of V. N. Kharkiv National University, Prof. Jurij Bobało, Rector of Lviv Polytechnic National University, and Prof. Ihor Kotsan, Rector of Lesya Ukrainka Eastern European National University in Lutsk. They were accompanied by Prof. Jerzy Woźnicki and Dr Iryna Degtayrova from the General Council of Science and Higher Education.

The Jagiellonian University was represented by Prof. Wojciech Nowak, JU Rector, Prof. Stanisław Kistryn, Vice-Rector for Research and Structural Funds and one of the founding members of The Guild of European Research-Intensive Universities, Prof. Elżbieta Górska, Dean of the Faculty of Philology, Prof. Jerzy Pisuliński, Dean of the Faculty of Law and Administration, and Prof. Piotr Laidler, Head of the Chair of Medical Biochemistry and member of the JU team for internationalisation.

After short addresses to the audience made by Prof. Nowak, Prof. Huberski and Prof. Woźnicki, several speakers delivered a series of presentations on the Jagiellonian University’s activities regarding Ukrainian Studies and cooperate with Ukrainian higher education institutions. The last part of the session was devoted to discussion.

The visit of URHEIU delegates at the JU followed their meeting with the representatives of Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education. According to an agreement signed by both parties, they will collaborate closely on joint scientific and academic ventures, work together within the framework of international projects, and support networking efforts for Polish and Ukrainian universities.
