On 13 November 2017 the Jagiellonian University hosted a visit by a delegation from Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU), also known as Beiwai.
The delegation, led by the Chairman of the University Council Prof. Han Zhen, was received in Collegium Novum by the Rector of the Jagiellonian University Prof. Wojciech Nowak. Other participants included JU Rector’s Proxy for Internationalisation Prof. Adam Jelonek and representatives of the JU Centre for Chinese Language and Culture “Confucius Institute in Kraków” Xinzhong Han and Yi Ping.
The discussion was mainly focused on the study programme Central and East European Studies, the details of which were presented by Prof. Adam Jelonek, along with information about a PhD programme planned to be launched at the Jagiellonian University, aimed at preparing students for cooperation with China within the framework of the “One Belt One Road” programme.
Beijing Foreign Studies University is one of the most prestigious Chinese universities. It teaches several dozen foreign languages and is one of the first Chinese institutions of higher education to run a study programme in the area of Polish Studies. Besides linguistic courses, the university offers programmes in other fields, such as international trade, finances, accounting, management, journalism and diplomacy. Beiwai is the main partner of the Confucius Institute in Kraków.
