Jagiellonian University signs MoU with University of Groningen

On 9 November 2017 the Jagiellonian University and the University of Groningen signed a memorandum of understanding envisioning broad cooperation in education and research.

Before the signing ceremony, a meeting between representatives of both institutions was held in Collegium Maius. It was attended by the JU Vice-Rector for Research and Structural Funds Prof. Stanisław Kistryn, the Rector of the University Groningen Prof. Elmer Sterken, JU Rector’s Proxy for Innovation Dr hab. Andrzej Adamski, as well as representatives of faculties of both universities. The participants discussed broad prospects of mutual cooperation within the framework of The Guild network and Coimbra Group. The details of collaboration, which is likely to involve student and staff exchange, as well as joint research projects, were discussed at subsequent meetings on the faculty level.

The memorandum was signed by the Rector of the Jagiellonian University Prof. Wojciech Nowak and the Rector of the University Groningen Prof. Elmer Sterken. In a short address, the JU rector expressed his delight at the opening of a new chapter in mutual relations, which crowns over ten years of efforts in this area.  

After the ceremony the delegation from Groningen took a tour of the Jagiellonian University Museum Collegium Maius.

The Univerisity of Groningen, established in 1614, is one of the oldest, and one of the largest Universities in the Netherlands. It is currently ranked 57th in the Academic Ranking of World Universities. The university is home to over 30,000 students and more than 5,000 staff.
