Katarzyna Piątek, Jakub Hołda, Kamil Tyrak, and Jan Sylwester Witowski have been awarded with the Wacław Mayzel MD Medical Laurels. This prize, first awarded in 1999 by the Polish Academy of Sciences Faculty of Medicine, is given to students for highly regarded research projects completed before graduation, outside of the formal requirements necessary to complete their study programmes.
Jan Sylwester Witowski, a fourth year student, was awarded for two papers: Cost-effective, personalized, 3D-printed liver model for preoperative planning before laparoscopic liver hemihepatectomy for colorectal cancer metastases and 3D Printing in Liver Surgery: A Systematic Review. The second award was presented to HEART (Heart Embryology and Anatomy Research Team), consisting of Jakub Hołda, Kamil Tyrak, and Katarzyna Piątek, for their seven-part publication entitled Morfologia and morfometria ludzkich przedsionków – anatomiczne podłoże dla zabiegów kardiologii inwazyjnej i elektrokardiologii [Human atrium morphology and morphometry – anatomical grounds for invasive cardiology and electrocardiology].
The award ceremony will take place on 14 December 2017 at 11.00 a.m. in the Mirror Room of Staszic Palace in Warsaw.
