University Children’s Hospital treats its millionth patient

Marko Gren became the millionth patient of the University Children’s Hospital in Kraków-Prokocim. The patients’ records have been kept since the foundation of the hospital in 1965.

The boy was admitted to the emergency department with nausea and vomiting on 4 October 2017. Having undergone the necessary tests, he was given a drip and released home.

On 31 October he and his mom visited hospital again, but for an entirely different reason. The seven-year-old received the “1,000,000th Brave Patient” certificate from the Hospital Director Dr hab. Maciej Kowalczyk and a teddy bear from the children’s health foundation “O Zdrowie Dziecka”.

Marko is a first-year primary school student. He is interested in history and loves reading. “When I grow up, I want to become a doctor to treat my grandparents”, he said during his second visit to the hospital.

The University Children’s Hospital in Kraków is the largest pediatric hospital in southern Poland. It has 27 wards with over 500 beds and provides complex medical and surgical care, including treatment, diagnostics and rehabilitation, to patients from infancy to 18 years of age.
