JU visited by the Ambassador of India

On 3 October 2017 the Jagiellonian University was visited by the Ambassador of India to Poland Ajay Bisaria. The diplomat participated in the opening ceremony of the new academic year at the JU Institute of Oriental Studies.

The Ambassador was received by the Rector of the Jagiellonian University Prof. Wojciech Nowak. The meeting was also attended by the Dean of the JU Faculty of Philology Prof. Elżbieta Górska and the Head of the JU Institute of Oriental Studies Prof. Barbara Michalak-Pikulska. The talk focused on the Polish-Indian partnership in the area of higher education, including the dynamic development of student exchange, as well as the establishment of the JU Chair in Indian Studies, which would not be possible without the Amnassador’s support.

After the meeting, Ajay Bisaria took part in the academic year opening ceremony at the JU Institute of Oriental Studies. In his address to the staff and students, the diplomat expressed his delight to speak at the university of Nicolaus Copernicus and John Paul II. Referring to this year’s 70th anniversary of India’s independence, he pointed out that Mahatma Gandhi’s principles of non-violent resistance have been embraced by a number of movements fighting for freedom and human rights all over the world, including the Solidarity movement in Poland. In this context, he wished JU students a successful academic year and expressed hope that they will contribute to building a more peaceful future.
