JU strengthens cooperation with the University of Novi Sad

JU strengthens cooperation with the University of Novi Sad

On 6–8 July 2017, Prof. Stanisław Kistryn, JU Vice-Rector for Research and Structural Funds, visited the University of Novi Sad at the invitation of its Rector, Prof. Dušan Nikolić. The visit was a follow-up of the memorandum of understanding signed on 11 May at the Jagiellonian University.

Both parties expressed their willingness to develop joint research initiatives in the areas of both exact sciences and social sciences, the latter being of crucial importance to our understanding of the world as it is today, in the face of rapid advancement of technology. The delegation visited many faculties of the University of Novi Sad – in particular, Faculty of Sciences, Faculty of Technical Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Philosophy, Faculty of Law, and Faculty of Education – and discussed possible approaches with their deans and other representatives.

The visit featured a presentation of several important institutions, such as:

  • Schneider electric DMS NS, an international start-up established at the University of Novi Sad, represented by its director Prof. Dragan Popović
  • The Matica Srpska, the oldest cultural-scientific institution of Serbia, represented by its president Prof. Dragan Stanić
  • Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts, represented by its president Prof. Stevan Pilipović

Broad spectrum of possibilities of joint scientific development of regional, cultural and business institutions of both countries will lead to mutual benefits. It is important to note that the University of Novi Sad is the second university in Serbia when it comes to its size and positions in rankings. It was established in 1960. Its largest faculty is the Mihailo Pupin Technical Faculty in Zrenjanin.
