The Guild network members meet at the Jagiellonian University

As a member of the prestigious cooperation network The Guild of European Research-Intensive Universities (The Guild), whose aim is to shape the European policies regarding research and development initiatives, on 30 June 2017 the Jagiellonian University held the international seminar Widening Participation and Structural Funds.

The event was hosted by the JU Vice-Rector for Research and Structural Funds Prof. Stanisław Kistryn. The Jagiellonian University was also represented by the Vice-Rector for University Development Prof. Dorota Malec. The seminar participants consisted of representatives of The Guild network, including the Secretary General Prof. Jan Palmowski, members of The Guild Widening Participation and Structural Funds Expert Group, as well as eminent representatives of network member universities, members of state authorities, including Minister Łukasz Szumowski, Secretary of State in the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, as well as experts from various Polish scientific and academic institutions.

The seminar was aimed at discussing the possibilities of using synergy between structural and investment funds, the programme Horizon 2020, and other EU programmes related to research and innovation to improve the quality of research funding. The meeting also provided an opportunity to exchange opinions on barriers and obstacles in grant application process within the framework of Marie Skłodowska-Curie actions and the possible ways of overcoming them.

“We would like to work out the guidelines for good solutions regarding synergies between structural funds and framework programmes to be presented to the European Commission and the European Parliament, so that resources are distributed across Europe in such way that we all develop in harmony and consistency”, said the JU Vice-Rector Prof. Stanisław Kistryn.

The primary objective of the The Guild of European Research-Intensive Universities, which brings together some of the best European higher education institutions, is to support and develop research initiatives by influencing the mechanisms of research funding and providing a platform for collaboration between the largest European research centres. Hence, the seminar provides an opportunity for the participating Polish institutions to present their interests and needs in the area of research funding to their foreign partners, and possibly get international support.
