ERASMUS+ Staff Training Week 2017

ERASMUS+ Staff Training Week 2017

It has become a tradition that every year the JU International Relations Office invites administrative officers from partner universities to discuss and foster new ideas on the development of international co-operation and other issues related to the international activities of universities. The event is directed to the staff of higher education institutions from the European Union as well as those from outside of Europe which participate in the KA103 and KA107 Erasmus+ Programme.

This year, on 19–23 June, JU is hosting 30 representatives from 21 countries and 24 different universities during the Fourth Erasmus+ Staff Training Week ‘JUst a Week’. Throughout five days, the participants will discuss and share experiences about staff and student mobility, quality of EU and non-EU solutions for support services, welcome centres for international academics, emergency protocols and security systems related to academic environment as well as the organisation of job shadowing and staff weeks. The participants of the training week represent various higher education institutions from Europe: Spain, Hungary, Bulgaria, Romania, Germany, Turkey, Italy, Great Britain, Finland, Belgium and Estonia as well as sixteen from non-European universities from India, Kenya, Russia, Ukraine, China, Japan, Mexico, South Africa and Serbia, which have signed inter-institutional agreements on co-operation with JU within the Erasmus+ Programme KA107. This cooperation will allow for comparison and better understanding of the needs and demands of students and academic staff of the partner universities.

The opening of ‘JUst a Week’ was be held on 19 June 2017 at the Faculty of Law and Administration. The Jagiellonian University was represented by Prof. Adam Jelonek, Rector’s Proxy for Internationalisation, and Dorota Maciejowska, Head of the International Relations Office.

'We are truly grateful or your presence here, because administrative officers play a very important role in the process of internationalisation. By coming here and sharing with us your experience and best practices, we are helping each other to build and develop our universities, making them truly international and pluralistic’, said Dorota Maciejowska in her opening speech.

Prof. Adam Jelonek echoed her sentiments, adding that ‘although almost everyone is sure that the European Union has had its ups and downs, nobody disputes its success when it comes to university cooperation. Now is the time for new beginnings: we need new partners and new students. I wish you all a very fruitful cooperation’.

Throughout the week, the guests of ‘JUst a Week’ will be able to participate in numerous workshops conducted not only by JU staff, but also by speakers from other universities, such as the University of Helsinki, Ruhr-Universität Bochum, Tartu University and the University of Łódz. ‘JUst a Week’ consists of seminars and workshops and visits to the oldest and the newly constructed buildings of the Jagiellonian University. Our guests will visit the 15th century Collegium Maius and the 21st century modern campus as well as the Jagiellonian Library. They will also have the opportunity to experience the beauty and unique atmosphere of the city of Kraków during visits to the Wawel Royal Castle and Kazimierz, the former Jewish district of Kraków. As part of the social programme, the participants will be invited to compete in small international teams during an International Pub Quiz – contest concerning the general knowledge of the world as well as Poland’s history and culture.
