The Guild of European Research-Intensive Universities of celebrates its 1st anniversary

Today, on 1 June 2017, the Guild of European Research-Intensive Universities is holding a meeting entitled 'Research, Innovation and the Future of Europe' at the Bibliothèque Solvay in Brussels, Belgium. The Guild is an international network comprising the most esteemed European universities, co-founded by the Jagiellonian University. The meeting marks the first anniversary of the Guild’s foundation.


Amongst the meeting’s participants are representatives of academic communities and EU government. It will be presided over by Robert-Jan Smits (Director-General of DG Research and Innovation at the European Commission), Anneleen van Bossuyt (a member of the European Parliament), and Janez Potočnik (former European Commissioner for Science and Research and European Commissioner for Environment).

The discussion will be focused chiefly on the next framework programme related to research an innovation. They will also debate on how to strengthen and support EU states with lower research effectiveness and quality.

On 2 June, a General Assembly of the Guild members will be held at the institution’s Brussels office, during which they will discuss the 9th Framework Programme and elect new members of the board.

The Jagiellonian University is represented by Prof. Stanisław Kistryn, Vice-Rector for Research and Structural Funds, the Guild’s treasurer and co-founder, Prof. Dorota Malec, Vice-Rector for University Development, Prof. Andrzej Mania, Head of the Chair in the History of Diplomacy and International Politics, and Dr hab. Andrzej Adamski, Rector’s Proxy for Innovation.
