The JU graduates win the Jerzy Jakubowski Competition

The Court of Arbitration at the Polish Chamber of Commerce in Warsaw announced the results of the Prof. Jerzy Jakubowski Competition to award the best MA Theses on the system of arbitration and mediation.

First and second place went to the JU law students:

  • Katarzyna Kempa took first place and was awarded 10,000 zł. for her MA thesis entitled: Limits of Judicial Intervention in Pending Arbitral Proceedings. Is Arbitral Autonomy Threatened by the Recent Decisions of the European Court of Justice? written under the supervision of Marcin Spyra, PhD,
  • Gabriela Pagacz took second place and received a 7,000 zł. award for her MA thesis entitled Klauzula porządku publicznego w międzynarodowym arbitrażu handlowym  (Public Order Clause in the International Trade Arbitration) written under the supervision of Prof. Andrzej Szumański.

The winners' theses will be published.

The prestigious contest named after Prof. Jerzy Jakubowski is organized every two years. It aims at promoting the institutions of arbitration and conciliation in the judicial system by popularizing the knowledge about them, and about commercial law in general, among the Polish students. It also intends to encourage students to undertake research in this field and gather data related to its issues.

The success of the Jagiellonian University students strongly indicates that it has become the leader in the domain where, until recently, it was the University of Warsaw that used to reign supreme.
