Jerusalem is a city possessed of a unique, multicultural tradition. Since 1967, it has been the centre of one of the most complex socio-political problems of the contemporary Middle East. It is this cradle of three monotheistic religions – Judaism, Christianity and Islam – that the latest exhibition in the JU Museum is devoted to. The official opening of the exhibition will take place on 9 May 2017 at 5.00 p.m. in the Kazimierz Room in Collegium Maius.

The exhibition, entitled Credo – Christian Communities in Jerusalem, was organised within the framework of a research project funded by the National Science Centre and carried out in the Holy Land by Michał Ziemowit Busko, a PhD at the JU Institute of the Middle and Far East. The photographs were taken by Dominika Zarzycka.

The main focus of photography and research in this project is the church of the Holy Sepulchre, the most important place of worship in the local Christian tradition, which symbolises the collective identity of Jerusalem Christians and their devotion to the Holy Land. It is a place that binds together the rich and diverse legacy of the Palestinian Christians, a place where they meet and where they see the source of their identity. The Church is also a destination for millions of pilgrims and priceless treasure of the Christian cultural legacy.

The exhibition, therefore, is not only a visual record of research, but is in itself a fascinating story about the everyday life in the central place of the Middle Eastern Christianity.
