Sinology Seminar: Jagiellonian Window on China

Jagiellonian Window on China is a sinology-oriented cross-generation meeting of Central European scholars and students. The event will provide a perfect opportunity for academic debate and serve as an enriching experience both for academic researchers and students.

One year after opening the Taiwan Resource Centre for Chinese Studies, on May 18-19, 2017 the Institute of Oriental Studies of the JU Faculty of Philology is holding an academic event - Sinology Seminar: Jagiellonian Window on China.

This year the event will include:

  • a series of lectures titled: Tang poetry between past and present, between China and the West, by Professor Olga Lomova from the Institute of East Asian Studies, Faculty of Arts, Charles University in Prague.
  • guest lectures by Professor Tseng Shu-Hsien (National Taiwan Library, Taiwan), Professor Yim Chi Hung (Chinese University of Hong Kong) and Dr. Cordula Gumbrecht (The Berlin State Library, East Asia Department, China Division)
  • panels for young sinologists: PhD / MA / BA student panels, to share their passion for Chinese civilization in the fields related to China and Taiwan (literature, language, culture and society), well rooted in the textual sources.

In addition to the lectures and panels, on May 20-21, 2017 the Sinology Student Academic Society at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow will hold cultural activities for young people from the European academic centers for sinological studies to accompany the Sinology Seminar: Jagiellonian Window on China.
