The speaker is is a world-renowned expert on alleviation of psychological distress, who professionally works with people affected with traumatic experiences related to dramatic events in various parts of the world.

The Department of Crisis Intervention and Psychotherapy at the Institute of Applied Psychology of the Jagiellonian University is hosting the lecture “Radicalisation and De-radicalisation” by Prof. Rony Berger, a world-renowned expert on alleviation of psychological distress caused by war, terrorism and other serious disasters.

Prof. Rony Berger professionally works with communities affected with traumatic experiences related to dramatic events in various parts of the world. He is employed at the Faculty of Emergency Medicine at Ben Gurion University as well as at the Faculty of the Stress, Crisis and Trauma at Tel Aviv University. Prof. Berger runs a programme aimed at alleviating psychological consequences of tragic events all over the world. He has led emergency relief and medical teams and has been involved in helping survivors of Oklahoma City bombing, 9/11, hurricane Katrina, Tsunami in Asia, terror attacks in Sri Lanka and Thailand, as well as earthquakes in Turkey, Indonesia, China, Haiti, Japan, New Zeland, Samoa and Tanzania.

The lecture will address the following issues:

  • Psychosocial model of radicalisation
  • Nationalist right-wing groups in the USA and Europe – evolutional point of view
  • Prejudice-reduction programmes at schools
