An international group of researchers from the Malopolska Centre of Biotechnology at the Jagiellonian University have produce a super-stable artificial protein ball that apparently defies the rules of geometry and may have applications in materials science and medicine. The results of the research will be published in the forthcoming issue of Nature.

The Jagiellonian University was again recognised as one of the leading European higher education institutions in terms of innovation by Thomson Reuters. The oldest Polish university has retained 90th place in Top 100: Europe’s Most Innovative Universities and is still the only institution from Poland and the entire Central-Eastern Europe included on this prestigious list.

The Jagiellonian University Medical College is the only higher education institution from outside the US to have been invited to collaborate in Cleveland Clinic’s project ‘Global Health Education’. The cooperation was initiated by Dr hab. Tomasz Rogula, Prof. UJ, a long-standing employee and professor at both Cleveland Clinic and Case Western Reserve University.

Polish-Chinese team works on reducing greenhouse gas emissions

Prof. Wojciech Macyk from the JU Faculty of Chemistry has received a grant in the first edition of the SHENG programme funded by the Polish National Science Centre and the National Science Foundation of China. The main aim of Prof. Macyk’s team is to develop photocatalysts that will aid in efficient production of solar fuels through the process of single- and multi-electron reduction of carbon dioxide.

I Contain Multitudes: The Microbes Within Us and a Grander View of Life by Ed Yong and Zwierzęta które zniknęły. Atlas Stworzeń Wymarłych by Nikola Kucharska won the main awards in the Smart Book 2018 competition. The gala in JU Collegium Novum also featured the presentation of the Smart Book Website Editors’ Award, the JU Academic Community Award, and the Public Choice Award.
