Jagiellonian University expands cooperation with Chinese higher education institutions

In early September 2017 two Jagiellonian University delegations paid visits to Chinese universities.

On 5 September, a Jagiellonian University delegation led by the Rector’s Proxy for Internationalisation Prof. Adam Jelonek met with representatives of Shanghai International Studies University led by Vice-President Prof. Yang Li. 

On 6 September, a meeting between the Jagiellonian University and the China Pharmaceutical University (CPU) took place in Nankin. The visit aimed to discuss the prospects for mutual cooperation, with special focus on the JU Faculty of Pharmacy.

The Jagiellonian University was represented by Dr hab. Aleksander Mendyk from the JU MC Faculty of Pharmacy and Dr hab. Ewa Trojnar from the JU Institute of the Middle and Far East. They met with Prof. Xiaoyuan Xu, Director of the International Office, Prof. Zhixiang Shi, Deputy Director of the Office of International Exchange and Cooperation, Mingming Qiu, Chief of the Section of International Students, and Zhilong Zhu from the Office of International Exchange and Cooperation.

During the initial part of the meeting, representatives of both universities delivered presentations about their units, with special focus on international collaboration prospects. Then the JU delegation discussed the new MSc study programme in English run by the JU Faculty of Pharmacy - Drug Discovery and Development, which attracted lots of interest from the Chinese partners. The participants stressed the role of the ongoing cooperation between the CPU and the JU Faculty of Pharmacy, which includes student and academic staff exchange, and discussed the prospects of its development in the future. The JU delegation presented the CPU with a Memorandum of Understanding to be officially signed during the Chinese delegation’s visit to Kraków, which is planned for autumn.
