On 8 December 2015 the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO) awarded nine scientists with EMBO Installation Grants. The researchers will receive 50 thousand Euros annually for the period of three to five years, which will help them to establish laboratories in Czech Republic, Poland, Portugal, and Turkey.

The award recipients include staff member of the Jagiellonian University Dr Sebastian Glatt. He is the head of a research team at the Max Planck Research Group of the Małopolska Centre for Biotechnology, where he uses structural biology to understand the molecular mechanisms of translational control in neurodegenerative diseases.

The Małopolska Centre of Biotechnology is a joint initiative of the Jagiellonian University and the University of Agriculture in Kraków. It was established within the framework of the Innovative Economy Operational Programme at the cost of 25 million euro. The main purpose of the institution is to conduct research at the highest possible level, generating innovation, patents and focus on working with companies operating the area of life sciences.

EMBO is an organization of more than 1700 leading researchers that promotes excellence in the life sciences. The major goals of the organization are to support talented researchers at all stages of their careers, stimulate the exchange of scientific information, and help build a European research environment where scientists can achieve their best work (source: www.embo.org).

The full list of grantees is available on the EMBO website.
