"From Bacteria to Bach and Back" – lecture by Prof. Daniel Dennett

Armed with state-of-the-art tools of modern cognitive science and evolutionary biology, Prof. Daniel Dennett has been searching through the jungle of philosophy and science for fifty years in order to find the path leading to the understanding of the human mind – the way from bacteria to Bach.

The first bacteria and Johann Sebastian Bach were born 3.5 million years apart. How did it happen that the evolutionary offspring of these first bacteria developed brains, created culture (e.g. composed the Brandenburg Concertos), became aware of these facts, realised where they came from and even started to wonder how they reached their current state. Innumerable scientists have been seeking answers to this question for many years.

In this lecture, Prof. Dennett will explain how scientists have been able to retrace this path and will take the audience on a fascinating journey through evolution.

The tickets for the lecture will be available for collection from 16 October in De Revolutionibus. Books&Cafe at ul. Bracka 14.
