The format of the symposium will be that of an extended slide seminar. A total of 84 selected cases will be presented and discussed during the sessions. A set of glass slides from the cases will be distributed (to the first 120 registered participants), and a syllabus will be distributed to all participants with a discussion of the cases. The symposium will focus mainly on diagnostic problems and controversies in surgical pathology utilizing a case study format and will be of interest to general surgical pathologists and trainees in pathology.

The Arkadi M. Rywlin Pathology Slide Seminar was founded by Dr. Saul Suster in 1991 to honor the memory of his mentor and teacher, the late Professor Arkadi M. Rywlin (1923–1987). Professor Rywlin was born in the free city of Danzig (Gdańsk, Poland) and completed his medical training at the University of Geneva, Switzerland. He immigrated to the United States in 1953 and served as the Director of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine at the Mount Sinai Medical Center of Greater Miami and as Professor of Pathology at the University of Miami School of Medicine until his untimely death in 1987. Professor Rywlin attained international recognition for his expertise and numerous publications in the pathology of the bone marrow. He was the author of more than 100 original articles spanning a variety of subjects in pathology and achieved international recognition with the publication of his textbook on Histopathology of the Bone Marrow (Little, Brown & Co., Philadelphia, 1974). Professor Rywlin was an outstanding educator ad trained hundreds of residents and fellows. He combined classical education in pathology with a strictly logical and critical approach to solving problems in pathology. The club was founded to honour the memory of this master of Pathology and to celebrate and promote the spirit of critical thinking that was the legacy of Professor Rywlin to his students.
